UPDATED: Nelson’s Dryden Hunt to make NHL debut

Nelson’s Dryden Hunt could make his NHL debut tomorrow in Buffalo.

The Florida Panthers have recalled Hunt from their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.

His mother Carla DeBiasio says they’re thrilled.

Both of his parents will be at the game.

Hunt, 21, has five goals and three assists in 13 games with Springfield this season. He ranks second among Thunderbirds players in goals and shots.

The 6-foot, 197-pound left-winger posted 31 points in 70 games with Springfield as a rookie in 2016-17.

Undrafted, Hunt was signed as a free agent by Florida on March 2, 2016.

In 72 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League during the 2015-16 season, Hunt led the league with 58 goals and tallied 116 points, ranking him second in the WHL for points. Hunt was named the WHL’s Player of the Year.

He is the first player from Nelson to appear in the NHL since Geoff Kinrade played one game for the Tampa Bay Lighting in 2009.
