Slocan commits to 100% renewable energy

The Village of Slocan has become the first local municipality to commit to 100 per cent renewable energy.

Following a presentation by the West Kootenay EcoSociety council pledged to make the transition by 2050.

Mayor Jessica Lunn says a proposed microhydro plant will help them achieve that goal.

Lunn says they’ll also strike an energy and climate action committee to work on other strategies.

Slocan is the fifth municipality in Canada to promise to wean itself from fossil fuels.

The EcoSociety will make the same request of Nelson on Monday.
