Council approves $25,000 for Nelson mural festival

Nelson city council has committed $25,000 towards next year’s mural festival.

Arts council executive director Sydney Black says the event is set for Aug. 17, 18, and 19.

It’s based on a similar festival in Vancouver.

Black says they hope to create ten murals on buildings in the alleys parallel to Baker Street.

But the artists and building have yet to be determined.

They actually requested $40,000 dollars from the city but Black says they’re happy with the smaller amount and will seek other funding as well.
