Man injured in rollover into Cottonwood Creek

One man was taken to hospital with hypothermia and unknown injuries after his vehicle rolled over into Cottonwood Creek this morning.

Nelson Fire Rescue says it was called just before 7 a.m. to Highway 6 and Perrier Road.

They discovered a pickup truck on its side in the creek with the driver trapped in the freezing cold water.

Crews used rescue tools including the jaws of life to get into the truck and assess and prepare the patient for extrication.

The vehicle’s roof was removed and the man was brought up the creek’s steep, snowy slope.

A passenger in the truck was out of the vehicle and left the scene before emergency services arrived.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but firefighters urge you to take extra caution when driving in icy conditions and ensure your vehicle has winter tires.
