Queen City asked to buy more bear proof cans

The City of Nelson is being asked to put up more bear proof garbage cans to help reduce the amount of animals having to be shot.
Frank Ritcey – Wildsafe BC’s Provincial Coordinator – says the Queen City could invest in four such devices in public areas.
But there’s a marketing perspective too.
He says if the public sees the City is serious about installing bear proof cans private home owners may think more about their own garbage management.
Wildsafe is suggesting the Queen City install three bear proof cans at Lakeside Park and another near the trail at the top of Stanley Street.
They cost about a thousand dollars each.
