Kootenay West MLA applauds Arrow Lakes Hospital announcement

The MLA for Kootenay West is praising everybody who worked towards gaining approval for a 2.1 million dallor redevelopment project for Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp.

Katrine Conroy says a lot of people and groups pushed for the project to become a reality.

Conroy says it’s overdue.

She adds a funding model has been worked out.

A few months ago Interior Health suggested that the West Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital District cover the entire project’s costs to expedite it.

The suggestion was unanimously panned by the hospital district.

The project entails upgrades for the triage area, two new trauma bays, renovated patient exam bays with privacy improvements and the addition of a multi-purpose meeting room.

Work will be carried out in three phases.

The design process is slated to begin in April.

Completion is pegged for late 2019.
