Nelson Youth Arts Council getting to work on first big project

The Nelson and District Arts Council are passing their knowledge on to others.

In November they created the Youth Arts Council in collaboration with Nelson Youth Action Network.

The council will show kids how to create projects and events from start to finish – including grant writings and securing permits.

Cultural development committee chair Sydney Black says people are welcome to join anytime.

She says the group went through a variety of options before choosing their first project

Black says the council is a great opportunity for kids in the community and one that they might not normally have access to in a small city.

She’s hoping to see the mural included in Nelson’s Mural Festival.
