New Arrow Lake ferry service underway

The new ferry on the Upper Arrow Lake is now in service.

The $26.5 million MC Columbia replaces two older ships on the route from Galena Bay near Nakusp to Shelter Bay.

It can handle 80 vehicles and 250 passengers.

John Harding with shipbuilder Waterbridge Steel says the size and space is proving to be a real time saver.

The start of operations was delayed by over a month because of a medical issue with the specialist sub-contractor looking after the propellers.

But Harding says they’re now underway ahead of the big summer push and users will notice far fewer line-ups.
