Daily quota of the trout harvest in Kootenay Lake is increasing

The BC government is increasing daily quotas for Kootenay Lake trout.

You’ll be allowed to keep two Bull or Rainbow Trout instead of one.

Senior fish biologist Jeff Burrows says this helps with the recovery of Kokanee stocks in the lake.

They’ll also be adding more Kokanee to the lake.

Burrows says they’ve added around 17 million eggs and one million fry over the past three years.

He says the trout are a natural predator of Kokanee.

Increasing the quota is part of the Kootenay Lake Action Plan to recover Kokanee stocks.

Burrows says they hope to see an increase in their survival over the year.
