Council hopes to be part of Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot

Nelson City Council is hopingĀ the Queen City is chosen for a pilot project on the benefits of a guaranteed basicĀ income.
It’s an idea that the provincialĀ NDP and Green parties both pledged their support for last May.
Councillor Valerie Warmington says NelsonĀ would be aĀ great fit.
Warmington says they also heard support for the idea this week from Dr. Lee Mckay with the Kootenay-Boundary Division of Family Practice.
Council will petition the provinceĀ to voice their support for the project,Ā but there’s no indication of when it will happen.
