RDCK may regulate festivals

The President of Shambhala Music Festival spoke at the Regional District of Centre Kootenay Board of Directors meeting this week. Jimmy Bundschuh says the RDCK is currently looking into a bylaw that would regulate festivals. He wanted to demonstrate the public safety measures they’ve implemented on the festival property.

After the wildfire risk last summer, Bundschuh says the started developing a second way to access the property which includes construction of a new bridge. It will also decrease the time it takes emergency vehicles to arrive by 10 minutes.

Bundschuh feels they already follow many regulations for health and security and hopes a bylaw can be avoided.

He says it’s not the first time the RDCK has looked into creating a bylaw.
