Kootenay-Columbia MP says Canada Summer Jobs Initiative important for students and employers

A program which helps students find summer jobs is getting a $625,000 funding boost.

Kootenay-Columbia MP Wayne Stetski worked to secure summer job funding for the area. He says, ‘I prioritized funding for as many as 210 student jobs in the riding and gave particular consideration to communities with low rates of youth employment.’ He adds the program is important for two reasons.

Stetski says he assessed each employer on the quality of the project rather than the values of the organization during the application process and opposed the Liberal Government’s addition in the screening process. The application included questions about an organizations stance on certain issues.

He encourages applicants that were turned down for funding to contact his office and says he’s still pushing the federal government to send him a list of projects that were rejected due to their beliefs.

He adds the program is about helping young people acquire valuable work experience and skills.

The Canada Summer Jobs Initiative contributes annually to aid in creating jobs for secondary and post-secondary students.
