City of Nelson warns of possible flooding

The City of Nelson is advising residents that Kootenay Lake levels could exceed those of 2012. Mayor Deb Kozak says no homes are expected to be impacted, but that does mean Lakeside Park and the Airport area.

Mayor Deb Kozak says last time a big storm also caused issues with the sewer system but the City has been working to prevent that from happening again.

At this point, it’s not known exactly when flooding will occur, but it’s expected as early as the end of the month. The City will work to re-open any closed park areas as soon as possible, but it could take several weeks before it’s deemed safe.

Sandbags are available under the orange bridge adjacent to Lakeside Park if necessary as creeks and streams are also running high and fast currently.

There’s more information on the City of Nelson’s website.
