Kootenay Lake levels to peak next week

FortisBC has issued another update on Kootenay Lake levels. They’re predicting it will exceed 1753 feet in Queens Bay by the end of May. Fire Chief Len McCharles says levels reached 1753.8 feet in 2012, which was the highest it’s been since 1974. Levels in Nelson could rise another 12 to 18 inches from the current levels and are expected to peak between next Wednesday and Friday.

The City is asking residents to stay away from the lake shore and along the banks of creeks until water recedes. Some areas along the dog walk have been eroded by waves. Boaters are asked to maintain a no wake speed.

FortisBC is asking residents to help them monitor any issues on Kootenay Lake with rising levels. You can send pictures to [email protected].
