Nelson Hydro tree-trimming program begins

Nelson Hydro’s tree-trimming program is now underway.

General manager Alex Love says it’s a big job.

Love says the contractor is starting in the Uphill neighbourhood.

But it won’t result in anything as noticeable as the trimming that took place three years ago.

Transmission lines are trimmed to a five-meter clearance and distribution lines to three meters.

Sixty per cent of Nelson Hydro’s outages are due to trees making contact with power lines.

Love also says crews will come and de-energize the line to your house for free, so you can trim trees on your own property.
