Nelson ALS walk raises over $25,000

The 12th West Kootenay Walk for ALS this month in Nelson raised $25,461.

The ALS Society of BC says 85 people came out to the event at Lakeside Park on June 3.

Sixty percent of the proceeds support direct services for people living with the disease and their families, while 40 per cent supports ongoing research, through the Canadian ALS Research Program.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. It attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body.
