Pedestrian Bylaw causes concern for some

Nelson City Council is looking to pass a new Pedestrian Bylaw to deal with uncivil behavior in the downtown, but how effective would it be? Rona Park is the Executive Director for the Nelson Community Services Society and says she isn’t sure it’ll have a major impact.

Park says she doesn’t necessarily oppose the Bylaw as the City and Police are trying something new to help, however Park worries it may just become another stressor.

She says we need to continue to work on long term solutions.

It was given first three readings by Nelson City Council this week and would replace the proposed Panhandling Bylaw.

Penalties would include modest fines and restorative justice
