Nelson strikes downtown vitality committee

A new committee will be asked to help ensure downtown Nelson’s vitality.

City councillor Michael Dailly says it will be asked to address challenges the area faces.

The membership of the committee has not yet been determined.

City staff say a comprehensive approach is needed to support those with mental health issues and addictions.

They also want to ensure the streets are safe and welcoming for everyone.

The committee will build on work done by city staff over the past couple of years with the social and business sectors.

It also follows the introduction this week of a new pedestrian bylaw to govern behaviour on the street.
