7th Annual Elephant Mountain Literary Festival comes to Nelson

Readers and writers around the Kootenays don’t want to miss this weekend’s Elephant Mountain Literary Festival in Nelson. Events run throughout the weekend and include workshops, beer tastings, panel discussions and more. The first event is a discussion of the writing craft at the Nelson Public Library at 7:30pm on Thursday and is by donation. Executive Director Natasha Smith says Friday’s Craft Crawl is a new addition this year and features students from Selkirk College’s creative writing program.

On Friday evening the 100 Mile Opening Gala event celebrates some fantastic local writers paired with local crafts beers.

Another highlight is Saturday Night Live! The Couple’s Edition. Smith says sadly author Stephen Reid passed away last month, however his wife Susan Musgrave will still be speaking at the event.

Stephen Reid served many years in jail and is one of Canada’s best-known bank robbers. His novels are Jackrabbit Parole and A Crowbar in the Buddhist Garden: Writing from Prison.

She says another thing not to miss is the great panel discussions.

Tickets are still available, but selling fast. Click here for more details.
