New tax would cover operating costs for the Nakusp Museum

The Regional District of Central Kootenay is looking to create a financial contribution service to cover operating costs at the Nakusp Museum. For tax payers in Nakusp and a portion of Area K it would mean an extra $5.40 a year on a $100,000 home. A home worth $300,000 would pay $16.20.

Nakusp Mayor and Chair of the RDCK Board Karen Hamling says the idea came after the museum approached them for help.

Hamling says if there’s a certain amount of people who are against the service, it might have to go to referendum.

The service would generate $20,000 a year for the museum.

The deadline is August 13 at 4:30pm. Click here for more information.
