Update: Small wildfire at 7 Mile currently being held

A small wildfire broke out today at Seven Mile on the North Shore near Nelson. BC Wildfire Service says it’s called the Sitkum Creek wildfire and is located approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Nelson and just north of Highway 3A.

It’s currently estimated at .2 hectare in size. Carley Cashman with the Southeast Fire Centre says there’s three wildfire personnel on site and it’s currently being held.

She says the cause isn’t known at this time, but likely human caused.

This fire is not impacting any communities or structures, however it’s very visible from Highway 3A and surrounding communities.

A small wildfire is currently burning at Seven Mile on the North Shore outside of Nelson. It’s about 0.2 hectares in size in the Sitkum area. The City of Nelson says it was confirmed by the BC Wildfire Service and an initial attack crew is on scene. Should the need arise helicopters and air tankers are on standby.
