A look at home values in Nelson from BC Assessment

Housing prices have been going up in Nelson over the past few years and continue to climb. Ramaish Shah is a Deputy Assessor with BC Assessment and presented some of the latest real estate market trends to Nelson City Council this week. He says many homes are selling well above asking price.

Shah says there’s about 34 single family homes for sale in Nelson right now. He says that number has been as low as 11 to 15 in the winter months.

Shah says the assessment for single family homes went up 9 per cent or more this year and last and is expected to continue. He says there used to be some price differences between the neighbourhoors in Nelson, however that’s not happening as much now.

Mayor Deb Kozak says City Council will continue to work on ways of increasing the amount of housing in the community. She says that includes the current work on laneway housing and regulations for short term rentals.
