New tax to fund Nakusp Museum approved

The Nakusp Museum will be receiving some additional funding next year. The Regional District of Central Kootenay held an Alternative Approval Process in Naskusp and part of Area K that looked to approve $20,000 a year towards operating costs.  Nakusp Mayor Karen Hamling says the results were positive.

Mayor Hamling feels it’s going to good use.

Ten per cent of the voting population would have had to register in opposition in order for the Alternative Approval Process to fail.

The tax means an extra $16.20 a year for a home worth $300,000. It will be implemented during next year’s budget process.
