More names added to those running for council

Jesse Woodward is one of the new candidates running for Nelson City Council. He is currently the markets director for the West Kootenay Eco Society and feels the experience will help him as a councillor.

“I felt like there was a lot of similarities as to what I do here and a council job. Through those seven years, I’ve worked with so many levels of local government and police, fire, and the business community.”

He says his top three priorities include continuing work on reducing wildfire risk, ensuring access to good services, and better communication between the City and residents. He expands on his third priority.

“Getting those lines of communication open and having more of a communications officer type job that would work at making sure the public knows what the City is doing and that the public understands what the City can and cannot do in terms of local policy and how the town is run.”

Woodward says he grew up in the Slocan Valley and has been here most of his life. He wants to help Nelson move into the future in the best way possible.

Another candidate was also announced for the Coalition of Responsible Electors or CORE. Their fifth candidate is Brian Shields, who retired from the City in 2010 as an operations manager.

Incumbents Janice Morrison, Robin Cherbo, and Bob Adams are also seeking re-election.

Nomination period finishes at 4:00pm on Friday, when all candidates interested in running will have to have their nomination papers submitted.
