Nelson residents have a chance to weigh in on future plans for the development of a new park space in Rosemont. Daybreak Rotary is hoping to create a multigenerational park in a grassy field near the skate park. Craig Stanley with the City of Nelson Parks and Public Works department explains the idea behind the project. “Because of the proximity to Jubilee Manor and the skate park it’s an obvious location for improvement and the overall plan is to bridge the generations. So, we have the users of the skate park and then we will provide space for the younger generation and the older generation to use.”
Daybreak Rotary has applied for the Aviva Community Grant and residents can now vote online up to 10 times a day to help the project win the $100,000 top prize.
The City also have an online survey available until this Friday, September 28 at 11:00am where residents can weigh in on the proposed concept plan. Stanley elaborates on what they’re asking about specifically. “We have asked if they want playground structures, if they want an accessible paved walking trail, if they want seating areas, shaded areas, horticulture, and potentially a spray park for the improvement of that space.”
Daybreak Rotary initially approached the City with their idea in 2017 and Stanley says they will be required to find the funding. ‘They will be the drivers of the fundraising. The city doesn’t have financial resources to contribute to this plan currently, so they will be go out and be seeking funds from community and other sources, including grants.”
The City says so far it’s received roughly 200 surveys from residents providing their feedback.
