SPAN hosts Candi-dating event

Nelson council candidates will be at the Public Library this Thursday, October 4 to try to gain the support of local voters.  The Candi-dating event is hosted by the Social Planning Action Network of Nelson and the Nelson Public Library.

SPAN Board Chair George Chandler says the format should be a little big different and make things more fun. “Kind of a speed dating format to allow people to spend three minutes with each of the candidates. As well as having some time for them collectively to answer some questions dealing with social issues in Nelson.”

Chandler says it also provides a more interactive opportunity to get to know the candidates. “You can come and sit down with a candidate for three minutes and ask her or him a question and they can talk for three minutes or you can say listen I got some things I want to say to you and there you go, you got your three minutes or whatever combination of the two.”

There’s 19 candidates running for council and three for mayor – all of whom have been confirmed to attend. It starts at 7:00pm and doors open at 6:30pm.
