Nelson Council Candidate: Margaret Stacey

Long time Nelson resident Margaret Stacey is hoping for a seat on Nelson City Council. She’s lived in the community since 1981 and previously served two terms on council from 2005 to 2011. But that’s not the only experience she would bring to the position.

“In my previous lives, I’ve been the manager of the Capitol Theatre, and of course a city councillor, and an English and biology teacher. I’m also now an art teacher, a restorer of old houses, a grandmother.”

She describes herself at a team player who does her homework. She also doesn’t want to be seen as the “old guard” and says that’s not something she ever was.

She says a lot of the planning council did during her two terms is coming to fruition now and she wants to be a part of that.

“I feel the City’s doing a very good job and I’m encouraged by that and that’s a result of this planning that got launched the two terms I was there. We had to build an official community plan and everything that ensued from that like sustainability goals and housing initiatives.”

Stacey adds she’s interested in moving those plans forward, seeing the results, and also meeting the new challenges coming up.
