Nelson seeks fairness in facility leases

Is the city of Nelson getting bang for taxpayers’ buck when it comes to publicly owned facilities and buildings?

That’s why they’ve completed the first step in a review of 21 sites – such as the civic complex, old museum, city parkade and 10th St college campus.

Mayor John Dooley says it has highlighted a lack of consistency and fairness on just what and how the city charges rent.

The city will move towards a more equitable rental scheme and standardized maintenance and operations.

Also council will consider if vacant properties should be sold off.
