The Regional District of Central Kootenay thinks the time has come for the East Shore of Kootenay Lake to have transit service.
Currently, a bus runs from Creston to Wynndel, but no further. East Shore regional director Garry Jackman believes there is enough demand for BC Transit to justify expanding the run.
“Consider putting a transit bus, fully maintained and certified, on our side, looping around Kootenay Bay and the ferry service,” he says. “We want to generate the interest and have the planning people come to our area.”
Jackman notes that a local group recently purchased a community bus, and “they may try to operate it through one of the community service groups as a trial to find out interest in ridership.”
The review that the RDCK is seeking from BC Transit would also include other areas, such as the Lower Kootenay Band reserve.
