RCMP out in force for Shambhala traffic

RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services have increased the patrols around Salmo and local highways as the Shambhala Music Festival gets underway.

Sgt John Ferguson says the event itself is very well organized but the people coming in creates a lot of traffic and they want to make sure everyone stays safe.

Ferguson says roadchecks are making sure drivers have proper licenses and haven’t been using drugs and alcohol.

Last year the west kootenay traffic services made 200 drug seizures and 28 drivers were issued suspensions for being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Early entry to the event started Wednesday and festival-goers leave Monday morning.
