Location identified for Nelson disc golf course

Art Gibbon’s Park in Nelson is being considered as a location for a disk golf course. Iraleigh Anderson with the Nelson Disk Golf Society explains why it’s a good fit.

“It’s a nice open treed area where the trees provide obstacles for disk golf, but it’s also open enough that safety won’t be a concern. There won’t be any blind shots that would cause any hazards.”

The Society has been working with the City to find a location, but so far hasn’t been successful.  To create a nine hole course, five foot baskets would need to be installed with concrete pads to throw from. Anderson feels the community is behind their efforts.

“There’s a huge will from this community to have a disk golf course here, and so as a funding strategy we’ve collected pledges at Markfest and different public events and we’ve got pledges well in excess of the budget for this project.”

The Nelson and District Credit Union have also pitched in $3,000.

The next steps will be to consult with the community and host an open house, so that Rosemont residents have a chance to learn more.
