New energy efficiency program for Nelson Hydro customers 65+

Nelson Hydro customers 65 years and up have a great opportunity to become more energy efficient.

100 free installations are available for things like LED light bulbs, weatherstripping, and water-efficient shower heads. But there’s more to the program than that explains Erin Thompson with the West Kootenay Eco Society.

“It’s also a way to start the conversation about what other home energy efficiency upgrades you might eligible for with rebates,” Thompson explained.

There are ways to get these materials for free, but the free installation is something that’s not usually offered. It’s the first time the program is being offered and will run until the end of the year. They will then re-evaluate the program and see about partnering with other utilities.

The program is open to any Nelson Hydro customers turning 65 by the end of this year.  Volunteers are also needed to help with installation.

The Seniors Home Weatherization Program is offered through Nelson Hydro’s Eco Save Program and the West Kootenay Eco Society. You can find more information here.
