Castlegar civic workers stop all overtime

Castlegar’s civic workforce is now refusing to work overtime.

That’s the upshot of the 72-hours strike notice given Friday.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has confirmed the 34 workers who make up local 2262 in Castlegar have activated that strike notice.

It said they’re taking “the mildest form of job action” at this stage in order to get city management back to the bargaining table.

President of the local Leford Lafayette says this move will force management to attend to any after-hours situations that arise.


The union says job security and wages are the sticking points after mediated talks broke down.

The city says no jobs are threatened and the workforce is among the highest paid in the West Kootenay and Province.
