Nelson to study food security assets/gaps

The city of Nelson is trying to get a handle on what food security assets it has and what’s needed.

Councillor Candace Batycki says the impetus for such a study was when various food-related groups came forward with applications for Community Initiative grant money.

The city will work with the nelson food cupboard and up to 40 different people involved in food.

These will include growers, producers, distributors and social service agencies.

There will also be two community consultations in September aimed at producing an in-depth report on Nelson’s food security needs and gaps in service.
