Extra study for Grohman Narrows dredging project

BC Hydro is giving an update on the possible dredging of Grohman Narrows near Nelson.

Spokesperson Sabrina Locicero says they will spend the next few months doing studies and modelling on how the various options would effect water levels and velocity.

She says this latest study is a direct result of feedback received from the public public presentations in March.

Dredging the Grohman bottle neck would reduce spring freshet flooding around the lake while allowing hydro to generate more power.

But it could also have an impact on flows further down the Kootenay River beyond Taghum.
