Severe thunderstorm warning for Nelson and area

NELSON, B.C – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Kootenays with a risk of two centimeters of hail and flash floods.
There is the potential of rainfall amounts up to 20 millimeters and wind gusts to 70 km/h.

The City of Nelson is preparing for large amounts of rain and are asking residents to ensure they have an emergency kit handy, as well making sure loose items in back yards are strapped down as they could become dangerous projectiles.
