Community Paramedicine Program good for patients and profession

A local paramedic says he’s excited about the changes coming to the job that will see them play a more in-depth role in rural communities.

Nelson’s Corey Viala has been part of the Provincial Community Paramedicine Committee.

Paramedics may start a monitoring role like checking in on the elderly and helping those manage their chronic diseases while keeping visits to the local ER down.

Viala says it’ll be good for the profession as well.

A framework is expected to be thrashed out at next month’s Union of BC Municipalities Convention.
