Castlegar can now fine residents for attracting wildlife

The City of Castlegar has passed a bylaw that will allow them to fine residents for attracting wildlife.

Working with the local Wildsafe B.C Co-ordinator, council officially passed their Wildlife Attractant By-law this week.

Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff believes residents will be happy to see the new regulation go into effect next year.

The bylaw allows the City to fine residents $50 for such offenses as leaving garbage accessible to wildlife, or not properly storing garbage.

$100 fines can be handed out for failure to remove fruit from property.
