Meanwhile Nelson’s mayor says candidates are free to choose to run for whatever position they want on city council but he says experience and track record is important.
John Dooley is speaking after retired Nelson Police Sergeant Pat Severyn announced he’s decided not to give councillor a try and instead go directly for the mayor’s job.
Dooley says with the new election terms running for 4 years the city needs experienced people.
