BC municipalities join RDCK pre-emptive disaster funding call

The province is giving serious consideration to a motion from the RDCK passed unanimously at last week’s Union of BC Municipalities convention.

This from chair John Kettle.

He explains the call is for the government to pay up to 50% of the cost of pre-emptive works aimed specifically at preventing imminent or threats of disaster.

The current legislation doesn’t work that way.


That in-stream and shoreline work on the creeks safeguarded almost $60-million in property value during the 2013 freshet.

The year before four people died in the Johnsons Landing landslide.
