First hurdle crossed for proposed medical clinic

A large multi-use medical clinic being proposed in a residential part of Nelson has taken it’s first formal step forward.

On Monday night Nelson council approved the first reading of the zoning change that would allow the two storey health care facility on residential land on the corner opposite Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Among various concerns being raised is the size of the building which would take up 40% of the total land area.

But Mayor John Dooley notes that if the property remained three residential lots the site coverage could be bigger when factoring in the 40% site coverage you can have on each individual lot.

Traffic and noise are other key concerns and a public hearing would be one of the next parts of the approval process.
