Castlegar CUPE workers hand grievance letter to council

It seems Castlegar council doesn’t understand why the city’s unionized employees have taken job action.

This from CUPE Local 2262 President Leford Lafayette after he and a group of members hand delivered a letter to council Monday night before their regular council meeting.

Lafayette says the reason they currently have an overtime ban in place is because employees want to project their jobs.

Lafayette says after the latest failure in negotiations there is a very realistic chance of escalating to full strike action amidst the dispute over salary and job security language.

He adds they wanted to send a message by handing the papers in person in front of a packed council chambers.
