Major emergency exercise for WK Regional Airport

An elaborate emergency exercise involving an accident at the West Kootenay regional airport will take place before the end of the year.

Castlegar Fire Chief and Airport Manager Gerry Rempel says they must conduct the event once every five years under Transport Canada regulations.

He explains it will test their municipal, emergency response and security program plans.

Rempel says it has not yet  been determined how many passengers will be involved in the exercise as they are in the preliminary stages of planning.

The airport also has to conduct a so-called “tabletop” or theoretical exercise annually.
