Castlegar unionized workers keep up pressure

Castlegar’s city unionized workers are continuing to make sure council understands their current job action.Approximately 70 members of CUPE local 2262 held a BBQ beside city hall Monday prior to council’s regular meeting.

Union President Leford Lafayette says they chose the location to make sure mayor, council and the administration are aware of what the issues are and to get back to the bargaining table.

City employees are refusing overtime as the labour impasse on job security and wages continues.

Lafayette has indicated full strike action is a realistic next step.

Members of council said Monday night the union has three options – to accept an independent mediator’s recommendations, go on strike or be locked out.
