Don’t expect the Nelson Police department’s request for a large budget increase to become an election issue.
Mayor John Dooley – who is also chair of the Police Board -says the board agrees the department is stretched thin but a conversation will need to be had in the Spring leading up to budget 2015.
The police want to up their staffing from 17 to 19 officers plus add an administrative staffer.
That would cost around $300,000 more a year.
