Silverton: Mills, Denbok, Main, Scaia elected

The residents of BC’s smallest municipality re-elected three incubments along with one newcomer to village council.

Silverton mayor Colin Ferguson had already been acclaimed, but incumbent councillors Brian Mills (91), Clarence Denbok (72) and Leah Main (61) were returned to office, along with newcomer Margaret Scaia (78), who lost to Mills in this year’s by-election.

Ferguson says he is eager to see how the new council will perform after they are sworn in.

“I think we are all eager to get going,” Ferguson says. “We know each other, and formed a bit of a team. We have a new member so we will work at reforging that team.”

Ferguson says the new council will remain focused on the addressing the old projects before starting new ones.

“Old projects included the water main,” says Ferguson. “We also need to finish bringing broadband internet to Silverton residents.”

On the outside looking in are Luce Paquin (52) and longtime incumbent Arlene Yofonoff (40).

Ninety-seven of 150 eligible voters cast their ballots, a turnout of 65 per cent.
