Nelson resident says he was attacked by police

A Nelson resident who claims he was attacked by a Nelson police officer has posted a video of himself on Facebook with two black eyes

Ron Bendle alleges Sgt. Nate Holt beat him up after an altercation on June 10, 2021.

Bendle was charged with wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, but the charges were dropped in August of this year. He currently faces several traffic violations including speeding in a school zone. Online records indicate the incidents happened the same day. He is due back in court on Dec. 21.

Bendle posted the video earlier this week but it is not clear when the video was taken nor why he decided to post it now. He has not elaborated.

Nelson police say the incident is under investigation but they won’t comment further.
