Natural gas marketers:know what to ask

A local woman is worried that some people – especially the elderly or uninformed- could be unfairly influenced by door-to-door natural gas salesmen.

She tells us she got a weekend visit in Castlegar from a marketer suggesting natural gas prices could go up by over 40% in the next five years. She was offered a contract keeping that increase below 7%. She says she’s concerned the sales person is playing on people’s fears.

Natural gas prices have actually come down in recent years although there is no guarantee against increases.

Marketers are allowed to sell term contracts and must adhere to a code of conduct.

Customers can cancel a contract without penalty within ten days of signing.

Fortis BC is in no way associated with gas marketers but they provide some useful info on their website.
