Kaslo fire destroys firefighter’s home

Kaslo Search and Rescue is asking for community support after a fire destroyed the home of Quinn Sethi, one of the fire department’s own members.

Manager Mark Jennings-Bates says the accident happened early one morning last week   and despite rescue crews’ best efforts they were unable to save the home.

“The house caught fire, and it was very serious,” Bates says. “It was fully engulfed by the time we got there.

“Sethi was able to get out, and he is lucky, but he won’t have a house.”

Bates says the cause is unknown and any guess at determining the cause of the blaze would be purely speculative.

“I know the investigator was out fairly quickly after the event,” he says. “There is nothing left to narrow down the cause.”

The fire broke out last week, and through vast community support Bates says they have raised just over $2,500 to help Sethirecover from the fire but they are looking for more.

“It is important we do help Sethi,” Bates says. “He is a very humble guy, and he wouldn’t ask for anything. He does a lot and it is the least we can do for him.”.

Sethi recently purchased the home, and lost everything in the fire including a vehicle.

A gofundme has been set up to help cover immediate costs until his insurance steps in.
