Prescribed burn planned near Kokanee Creek Park

The BC Wildfire Service says it will support BC Timber Sales in conducting a prescribed burn covering up to 10 hectares near Bradley Creek and Kokanee Creek Provincial Park.

The burn site is located approximately seven kilometres southwest of Balfour. Smoke will be visible from Balfour, Harrop, and surrounding areas. Smoke will also be visible to motorists traveling on Highway 3A.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Tuesday. Burning will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal, though smoke may linger in the following days.

The wildfire service says the burn is intended to reduce build-up of dead and combustible material, prepare the site for replanting, and reduce future risk of catastrophic wildfires.
